Howl's Millrace-ing CastleThis was done entirely in 0.2 and 0.01 Copic Liner pens. I think I can now crown myself a master stippler, or at least, that's the pet name I gave the carpal tunnel I got rendering this. That aside, I had an amazing time with this homage to one of the greatest artists of all time. | The Ties That BlindPen, ink and digital color. This is an illustration I did for a friend's tattoo shop, the runes are all symbols of things I wanted the shop and the people in it to have like inspiration, strength, success, etc. I like to make the illustrations I give to people sort of like talismans of success and happiness. | Divinely FlawedYou know it's going to be a fun project when your client opens with, "I want, like, a subtle uterus." And great it was. This project was stuffed with symbolism, every detail is important to the overall narrative, the overarching one being, that a woman's beauty comes from her flaws. Hence, the right hand side of the image being a bit torn up, and, you know, the uterus. |

An Insubstantial MountainVine and compressed charcoal, at a casual 5 ft. tall. It's surprisingly frustrating working with a subject that refuses to defy nature and not wilt for a drawing of this scale. | SymbolsThis was a painting done in oils, using a limited earth tone pallet. It was meant to be a loose representation of one’s self, the stag was a representation of my family (as there is one on top of my family crest) as well as my fascination with Celtic legends and lore. White stags in particular were seen as harbingers of adventure, or leaders to the other realm. The stag on my crest if chained to a crown, I never liked that, so in my version the chains are broken. | Road TripThese illustrations were for a book about a road trip. I wanted to capture the
solitude and introspection I think many search for when they set out alone on the open road. I wanted to do that by making the viewer a sole spectator, by including elements of humanity (the guard tower, the balloon, the shrimping boat) without showing any actual humans. Giving you the sense of being alone, without feeling lonely. This is also the very first illustration I did exclusively in vector. |

Eve's How to Home BrewThis was done to accompany an instructional article of some kind. I decided to do how to home brew apple cider. Which got me thinking about apples, and how they are often depicted as the forbidden fruit, and how if I were Eve, and I got kicked out of Eden, I would certainly want some libations to ease that blow. | The Princess of the Sea (cover)The Princess of the Sea, is a traditional Japanese folktale, one of many I heard as a kid growing up with our Japanese exchange students. It was always odd to me that in elementary school we were read folk, and fairy-tales, from almost every part of the world except Asia. So I thought it would be awesome to expose kids to more tales from different cultures, starting with one of my favorites. | The Princess of the Sea (spread) |
